Especially in the biopharmaceutical profession, the production requirements for the processing of drugs are very strict in all aspects. For those drugs that are thermoplastic and have low conversion temperature, the scale of useful temperature for drying is quite limited. Two opposing factors determine the limited temperature scale: the product temperature must be low enough to ensure the stability of the product and no bonding; At the same time, the drying temperature must be high enough to dry the material within a useful time before the material droplets / particles collide with the drying tower wall. Worse, the solvent in the material behaves like a plasticizer, reducing the allowable temperature of the product. Wrong drying conditions will lead to a very low yield due to the accumulation of materials on the tower wall. Too low or too high drying temperature will lead to this result. Can the spray drying equipment meet and complete the above requirements?

When drying, there are many factors to be considered comprehensively for the drying of different substances. The drying of particles shall be determined by the outlet temperature of the drying equipment and the solvent vapor content in the exhaust gas. Higher outlet temperature or lower solvent vapor content of exhaust gas will affect the drying of products. As for the outlet temperature and drying gas flow of a fixed spray drying equipment, reducing the inlet temperature of the drying equipment will lead to a decrease in the feed capacity, evaporation capacity and the solvent vapor content of its exhaust. Therefore, it is necessary to balance the parameters of spray drying very carefully.

In addition to the above elements, in fact, the useful drying time that spray drying equipment can produce is also very important. For different products, when the diffusion of its own residual solvent is constrained during drying, the single-stage drying equipment cannot perform useful drying. In many cases, it is necessary to add a rated drying section.

Of course, although this drying method works well, not all drugs can be dried in spray drying equipment, because some drugs are thermoplastic, which will make them unsuitable for this drying method. At this time, low-pressure spray drying can be an option.
